Findings/Interpretations reported in the article | Mintzberg claimed that managers need to fulfill three major roles while performing their jobs, which are interpersonal roles, informational roles, decisional roles. The interpersonal roles and The information roles both consist of 3 sub-roles. For the interpersonal roles, figurehead role performs ceremonial duties, leader motivates and encourages employees to achieve tasks, and liaison deals with people outside their units. Regarding the information roles, Monitor scans their environment for information, disseminator shares information with others in their company and, spokesperson shares information with others outside their department or company. Meanwhile, the decisional roles are subdivided into 4 sub-roles. Entrepreneur adapts to incremental change, disturbance handler responds to problems that demand immediate attention and action, resource allocator decides who gets what resources, and negotiator: negotiates schedules, projects, goals, outcomes, resources, and raises. |
