Respond in a summative and discussion manner to the post below:
- Most states now apply which standard to providing an informed consent? Informed consent can be provided by implied consent and express consent. The most important factor is that the patient is legally competent and possessesa reasonable amount of knowledge and understanding about the proposed medical and surgical treatment. Implied consent is the method in which the patient and or responsible party authorized consent manifested through action. Express consent is given in words whether spoken or written. Consent is typically provided in written form and a patient'ssignature is obtained.
- If you were the Florida Supreme Court, would you have decided the Bush vs. Schiavo case differently? Yes or no, stating your reason(s) for your position. I agree with the supreme court's decision. Without a living will her husband absolutely had the right to make the decision to remove life sustaining treatments. He allowed her to undergo the life sustaining treatments for 8 years before asking them to be removed. That means that her parents had 8 years to come to terms with the fact their daughter was not going to get better. That she was in a vegetative state that she could not come back from. Her remaining to be on a tube feeding was selfish on their part.
- Do you agree with charitable hospitals being exempt from property taxes if they meet certain state established criteria? Yes or No, stating your reason(s) for position. Yes, I do agree that charitable hospitals should be exempt from property tax. There was a time that my son had to receive care at a charitable hospital because my insurance would not pay for the care that he needed. The care that my son received was 100% free. If charitable hospitals had to pay property taxes, they would have to try to raise more money yearly through donations to pay for those taxes. This could potentially take away from the free services for people who could not afford care and could also take away from the types of services the hospital can provide.
