Strategic planning is challenging for an organization. Ensuring that the vision meets execution is not always easy. One of the biggest challenges of strategic planning is the change in personnel. There will be unforeseen circumstances, life events, or a new strategic plan that aligns differently from the vision of an executive or a manager. This causes the person to leave the enterprise to look for opportunities in an organization whose vision aligns with the individual's beliefs. This causes the organization to search for new employees to fill the open vacancy. With new leadership comes new perspectives, approaches, ideas, and opinions regarding what is expected of the organization. This change can cause the strategic planning cycle to start again. This causes the organization to revisit all the decisions and plans already implemented. According to (Brown, 2015), to remediate this issue, the organization put into place a strategic planning steering committee to ensure the organization's vision stays true regardless of who is the person in charge. This key steering committee is vital to the organization now and in the future. Without the steering committee, the organization cannot allow new leaders to present new ideas, processes, or systems to ensure that the organization's vision is carried out successfully. The committee members can listen to potential enhancements in the strategic planning. What Are They Forgetting That You See Should Be Done? The item that they are forgetting that should be done, or at least not called out in the article, is the limits of the strategic planning steering committee. What happens if a new leader presents an idea that is a radical change to the visions that are currently in place, and that change will significantly benefit the organization's strategy in the long term? How does the committee handle this scenario without abandoning the work already done? As previously mentioned, starting the cycle over because of a new leader's idea is something that, in the opinion of this author, should be avoided. Instead, the vision should be carried out as intended, and the new change must be implemented to enhance the strategic vision without abandoning the pillars the organization stands on. According to (Brown, 2015), there are high expectations when there is inclusive participation, and the organization starts to look for new programs or procedures that can be implemented quickly. The organization needs to remember the vision and the strategy in place. If there is a need for a change in the system or processes, it is essential to communicate the reason behind it to the organization. It is crucial that the change does not make a process more difficult or cumbersome, leading to end-user dissatisfaction and causing the organization to back out of the change or find a new system that meets the organization's requirements.
