The life transition I chose was divorce. The dissolution of a marriage is almost always an event, at the very least marked by disappointment and the loss of dreams and expectations. (Psychology Today, 2019) Thetheoretical orientation I chose was Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. The key (CBT is to identify problems in thoughts, feelings, and sensations. The goal of CBT is to assist clients in identifying positive coping skills by breaking these thoughts, feelings, and sensations into smaller parts. CBT only focuses on addressing current problems in a practical way to improve client daily functioning.

When modifying CBT for clients going through divorce, it is important to consider several key factors. Firstly, acknowledging and validating their emotions, such as grief and anger, is crucial. Challenging and reframing maladaptive thoughts and beliefs related to the divorce can also be helpful. Teaching stress management and coping skills, along with building resilience, can assist clients in dealing with the challenges. Co-parenting and communication skills should be addressed, particularly for clients with children, to ensure the well-being of everyone involved. Lastly, practical concerns like financial adjustments and adjusting to a new life should be taken into account. Understanding these aspects allows therapists to tailor their approach to effectively guide clients through the unique challenges of divorce.

Colleague 2:

Empty nesting has become a social disorder. Parents that forgot one day the baby would become an adult struggle with letting go.

Then, explain how you might modify the theory-based interventions of your chosen theoretical orientation to work effectively with client(s) experiencing the issue you selected.

Utilizing solution focused brief therapy we would work toward what would help you to feel whole. It is so easy to focus on the less than, negatives, anddistortions. Solution focused therapy pivots from that canvas. Imagine someone saying "Gosh, you gained a lot of weight." Your response would not be wrapped in kindness. We can pivot to say "Woah, how did you lose all that weigh?" As you can tell, confidence injects a dialogue response.

Finally, explain the significant aspects of the life transition or developmental issue that influence how you would modify the application of your chosen theoretical orientation.

Cognitive behavior therapy is a proven technique. It has a firm foundation. However, I think CBT is also a stressor for blinded countertransference. Solution focused therapy looks beyond thedefeat, separation, demise. This helps people top look forward.
