According to Magunsson, p-values are sometimes misinterpreted or misused (n.d). Researchers use a null hypothesis to "guess" the specific value of a chosen population. A null hypothesis is tested by researchers conducting a null hypothesis significance test. In regard to the statement of "given this research was exploratory in nature, traditional levels of significance to reject the null hypotheses were relaxed to the .10 level." It is important for researchers to have a level of probability and can be of any range, however it is better to reach for a higher percentage. Reason being, the lower the number is, the less likely the study is going to be effective (Warner, 2012). This can possibly determine whether the values of the research are correct or off. This can be compared to the 95% confidence intervals that we discussed in our previous assignments, even though it relates more so to the actual population mean. Regarding the author, even though the study was exploratory in nature, finding the correct values and valid results will allow confidence in the study conducted. Relaxing the level to .10 appears as if the results of the study were not imperative for the population or topic chosen and the author was comfortable with the data results.
