Student one:Alice from Alice in Wonderland shows signs of schizophrenia. She goes through this world where she sees animals talking and believes there is a queen is after her to torture her. She goes through different phases and places that make no sense. She watches a cat that becomes invisible and who talks to her while she is going through this underground world. She also comes across a caterpillar who smokes which can never be. Schizophrenia can be hallucinations which is what Alice is going through by seeing these uncommon things befold. Paranoia is also another thing that can diagnose this disorder and Alice goes throughout this Wonderland in fear trying to understand what it is that she is seeing and why. Another diagnose is the noises she hears and when she hears this cat that vanishes at times can be the reason of her disorder.
Student two:The topic I chose was 2, "Many people have found it helpful to talk to a therapist to overcome a mental disorder, as well as to support an already healthy mind. Several therapy approaches were discussed in the materials this week. If you set up a meeting to talk to a therapist, which therapy approach would you like the therapist to apply? Why?"
If I were to schedule with a therapist, I would like to be treated using exposure therapy. I have severe anxiety when it comes to big crowds and social gatherings. I have been talked to about it and have tried to talk through my anxieties, but that never seems to have a longstanding effect on me. My anxiety progressively has gotten worse, and I wonder if exposure therapy would work for me. I believe it would work for me because the steps taken are minimal, and you only increase your exposure to what you are scared of once you are comfortable with the current step. The textbook gives an example of Curtis, who fears heights. The first step in his exposure therapy was to stand on a chair and look down; then, it was to climb a small stepladder, look down a flight of stairs, and so on until he could stand at the top of his apartment building and look down without fear. In my case, this would probably be a little different; start by going to a gathering of 50 strangers and gradually increase the number of strangers I can be around before becoming filled with anxiety. I feel that this type of therapy would have a longstanding effect on my anxiety, and honestly, it sounds like fun could come of it.
