RESPOND TO THE DISCUTION POSTBELOW WRITTEN BY MY CLASSMATE (PARAGRAPH OR TWO) THANK YOU !

In 2021, The United States imported petroleum from about 73 different countries. This includes crude oil, gas liquids, refined petroleum, diesel fuels and biofuels. The oil imported accounts for about 70 percent of the US' total gross petroleum imports in 2021. The top 5 countries in which the US got its oil from were Canada, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Colombia. The price of oil impacts my consumption in a way that when gas prices are higher on nationwide scale, we tend to drive less in order to preserve the oil we have and not spend more money. The demand for oil related products also decrease therefore affecting the opportunity costs as demand for electric vehicles increases as well as other alternatives. The price of oil drives production in a way that an increase in oil prices usually is because of lesser production globally thus lowering the expected rate of economic growth and increases inflation as there is a higher demand.

Without government incentives and with the price of gas being low, I don't think people will tend to stop buying hybrid or electric vehicles because they are the future in order to live a sustainable life in my opinion. Though crude oil is still the king of the energy market, the market for hybrids is rapidly expanding as low gas prices are not sustainable for many countries in the long run. Fracking is the drilling out of oil from the ground. It can have many negative effects on the community where oil is extracted from hence why these operations are mostly outsourced and oil is imported from other foreign countries. If there are oil reserves in a forest area, deforestation is bound to happen there. It can also poison groundwater, pollute surface water, impair wild landscapes, and threaten wildlife leading to displacement of living habitats from that place so the potential harm to the environment should definitely be calculated. I don't think we drill for oil off the coast of Maine simply because our crude oil and natural gas reserves are very limited hence the damage done to the environment would not be worth the little oil extracted.
