Hello small group,
My chosen company is Mars Corporation. Mars is a privately owned company. In privately owned companies, majority of the time is the family who are the shareholders. Mars is no different in this case with one primary shareholders, John Mars the chairman (Yahoo Finance, 2022). He chooses to run the company as a democracy, not a dictator. Mars has 43 executive level positions, all with a say in running the organization (Crunchbase, 2022).
Mars might be a privately owned company. However, they have supply system still has several agencies invested in it. Mars has almost 200 suppliers to maximize its supply chain. They have 23 major suppliers dedicated only to Mars success (Mars Inc, 2021). They are also looking into 30 additional contractors to aid with climate action by reducing GHG emissions. All the suppliers may not be considered shareholders. Nonetheless, the chief procurement officer, one of the 43 executives, holds the provider's inputs in high regards.
Their chairman does his best to answer to feedback from the customers. For example, some customers feedback in the past was for better sustainable plan to save the planet. In 2019, they launched a pledge for the planet initiative. The initiative aims to cut emissions 30% by 2025 and 70% by 2050 (Comparably, 2022). Listening to the customers builds longtime loyalty. Some reviews have pointed out retailer's shortages with their products. Mars continues to work with distribution centers and retailers to minimize inaccurate demand forecasting.
One area of improve Mars could make is employing better quality people. Researching some of the reviews allows for concerns in the management levels at the distribution centers. Many organizations have sufficient forecasting programs. If the problem is not the program, then it must lay with the people. Some locations make hiring the best candidates difficult. However, Mars could send auditors to those locations to keep distribution centers on their toes.
