Active learning, in the realm of constructivism, I would describe as students are not passive learners when it comes to their education, instead, they are active learners. It emphasizes the importance of learners building their knowledge through experience, active engagement, and inquiry, active learners aren't sitting at a table doing worksheets, they are elbows deep in their learning actively gaining knowledge. An instructive method that supports this theory is physical activity in their education. Not only does this assist in strengthening their cognitive abilities, depending on the lesson it also helps build up their fine motor skills or even their social skills. When it comes to the students of preschool age, it is necessary to help build up their abilities in each of the developmental domains to better prepare them for their academic careers in the future. "Teachers can facilitate children's pre-academic outcomes if they simultaneously teach motor and cognitive skills with the preschool curriculum" (Cheung, Ostrosky, et al. 2019, p. 1) Using the active learning approach in early childhood creates a conducive learning environment where students are engaged and apart of their education. It helps students develop problem-solving skills when faced with a challenge, reflective thinking to help them further understand their work, and also social interaction if they are working collaboratively.
