Respond to these two peers with thoughts questions/concerns likes and dislikes regarding their response to this post: Based on the idea of having multiple selves, what were some of the influences that you had (personality, temperament, culture, ethnicity, family, peers, etc.) that shaped your identity and how that identity or multiple identities change as you got older and why?

post 1: Some influences that I had that I believe shaped my identity include being raised by a single mother. I had a vision for my possible self when I was younger of how I wanted my family to look like as I got older. I wanted a family that was not separated or divorced because I did not want my future kids to go through what I went through. I did achieve that for a while but now have been divorced for two years. It was extremely hard at first, and I am still learning what my identity is now after being a divorcee. However, being raised by a single mother really helped me because I know if she had the strength to get through it on her own, so can I. She helped shaped my identity greatly and still does every day as I navigate my new identity raising three young kiddos on my own.

Another influence that shaped my identity is being part Filipino in a small town. My family moved from California when I was 5, while I do not remember a lot from my childhood living there, I did live there for 10 years in my adult life before moving back. Growing up I had a bicultural identity. My father's side is Caucasian while my mother's side is Filipino. We mainly stuck to the American traditions since that is how my mother and father were raised however, we always incorporate the foods from the Philippines by my mother cooking and my grandparents' sending snacks and things back to us. I remember growing up a lot of my peers found it so different almost "weird" when I would share with them- especially the foods my mom would cook. After living in California as an adult, I embraced my Filipino cultural more since I worked with a lot of Filipinos. They really pointed out a lot of things I do that I never noticed due to my heritage, and it really helped me be more comfortable in my own identity now.

post 2: My personality has changed quite a bit from back in high school. Back in high school, I was the emo kid who only had my small circle of friends and kind of thought the world revolved around me. Now I don't put label on me and just be myself. I still have a small circle of friends but mostly new people than who I used to be friends with back then. I guess what influenced me to kind of be an emo kid was my taste of music and I liked the style. I didn't really fit in to any of the groups in school and was alone. When I started to dress that way I started to make new friends who were also "alternative" and my attitude started to change too. When I was 15 years old (almost 16) I got into my first relationship but, it didn't last long. All my relationships up until about 22 years old did not last long. Which caused major depression thinking I was always going to stay single. I had a hard time trying to meet new people too in order to make friends. As I got older though I realized it's not too hard to talk to someone and that there was a lot more worse things out there to worry about. Instead of worrying if someone likes me, I just don''t care. I'm not going to worry about someone else's opinion of me. I mostly worry about money and bills now. As I said before, I just try to be myself and I look forward to the future. I do still have depression but it is no where as bad as it used to be. I took my rough draft version of me (high school me) and molded him to the present me. Present me is now trying to mold this version of me into the final version of me (future me). Shy and awkward student to outgoing and fun social worker.
