Before I started my research, I began by identifying a topic that I was interested in researching. The topic I had chosen was the effect of childhood trauma and bipolar disorder. I directed my research towards the public. My these statement for my research was: While some people may think that childhood trauma does not play a part in the child's mental health, it is crucial to treat the child at a young age or after the trauma because it is proven that intervention and treatment can decrease the chances of the child being diagnosed with Major Depression Disorder and better equip the child for their future and mental health. While I was searching for a database, I chose Psychology Database (ProQuest) and Psychology (Gale One File). I used the Boolean operator such as "AND" to correlate my search term. I used the following search terms while conducting my research: bipolar and adolescents, major depressive disorder and children, childhood trauma and children, and trauma and children. I clicked the peer review limit while researching. On all my sources I followed a criteria called the CRAAP test to evaluate the currency, relevance, authority, accuracy, and the purpose. The criteria I used the most was purpose and accuracy; I want to make sure that my source provided accurate evidence as well as to make sure it is relatable to my topic. The resource that I found the most helpful was an article called "Childhood Adversities are different in Schizophrenic Spectrum Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, and Major Depressive Disorder" (Bruni et al., 2018). I had a challenging time finding articles that had the same purpose as my thesis while researching.
