respond to this post - Doing a little more research on this graph, the Ohio Department of Heath's "Emergency Department Visits for Suspected Drug Overdose Among Ohio Residents Ages 11 Years and Older" shows that the opioid crisis hit its peak in quarter 2 of 2017 with almost 5000 visits to the ER (2024). From 2017 to the present, the chart shows a very slow decline in suspected opioid overdoses which shows that the campaign to educate people about the crisis appears to be working by reducing the number of overdose deaths in the state. The second data set that made an impact on me from the video was when the Montgomery County coroner stated that 70% of the people in the morgue were there because of overdosing and he extrapolated that there will be about 2,000 overdose deaths in his area and about 10,000 for the state of Ohio (Soboroff, 2017). This was a somber reminder about how dangerous the opioid crisis is in an area where the economy had taken a turn for the worse and people were looking for ways to self-medicate.
