  1. Respond to two peers Point out what you perceived to be the strengths of the initial posting along with supporting rationale.
  2. Identify specific opportunities for improvement with regard to the content in the initial posting.

As you formulate your initial post, select another company to research similarly. Perhaps select a company in which you hope to obtain a job. What characteristics about the company's organizational culture and corporate philosophy appeal to you? What alternative companies did you consider and why? Can you identify whether the company's decision making is more quantitative or qualitative? Are any costs or benefits for the resulting culture in the organization shown in their financial statements? Or if you found another source for relevant information, please identify and cite sources. Where did you conduct the research?

The company that I have selected to discuss is The Boeing Company. Boeing sells and manufactures airplanes, rockets, missiles, and other military equipment. I live in the Phoenix-Metro area, and manufacturing is slowly making its way into the area. Boeing has numerous facilities in the area, all of which offer high-paying jobs. In fact, one location manufactures parts for their Apache helicopters. They also frequently hire students, which is beneficial to those who are looking to step into the aerospace/defense industry right out of college.

Organizational Culture and Values

Boeing has found itself in hot water in the past, namely for its commercial aircraft. Deadly crashes and federal investigations have put Boeing under the microscope. As a result, Boeing had to go back to the drawing board to ensure their products are completed properly and ensure the highest level of safety. Furthermore, they had to re-tool from an operations standpoint. Accountability and excellence are all values that Boeing states. However, one of the most notable ones are "Eliminate Traveled Work." Boeing states that "rework has a negative effect on productivity and first-time quality, so we will strive to eliminate it in all aspects of our business, from engineering design to the factory floor to the office environment. Let's do things right the first time, every time" (Boeing.com, 2023). Boeing aims to combine both qualitative and quantitative decision making into their decision-making strategy. "A balance of these models, supported by a robust learning infrastructure and a deep understanding of systems and their dynamics, might prove to be a strategy disruptive enough to our established organizational forms to allow us to escape the groove we find ourselves in and strike out in new directions (Grace, 2023).

Alternative Companies

Boeing's top competitor in all industries is Raytheon Technologies. Raytheon Technologies manufactures aircraft engines, satellites, missiles, and other military equipment. Raytheon sells their equipment to the United States Military, as well as other nations across the world. They own a few subsidiaries that allow them to accomplish this, such as Pratt & Whitney (engines) and Raytheon Missiles & Defense (all other military applications). Luckily, Raytheon has not faced any issues that Boeing has. Their only issue has been their supply chain, but each defense company not been able to avoid the damage that resulted from COVID-19. Raytheon's values drive their actions, behaviors, and performance to help for a safer, more connected world. Their values include trust, collaboration, respect, innovation, and accountability.

Investments in People

In 2018, Boeing took advantage of the U.S tax reform and launched a new workforce development program. This program was intended to make resources more accessible to employees at all levels. By providing each employee with access to online lessons, certification courses, and degree programs, Boeing is making an investment in the people that drive their company. Heidi Capozzi, senior VP of Human Resources for Boeing, stated that "Our long-term plans represent a down payment on the future of our employees and tomorrow's technical workforce" (Boeing.com, 2018).

Goop! I would like to work for a company that is structure in vision, mission, kindness and accountability such as depicted in the company Goop. The Goop company is founded by Gwyneth Paltrow and began in 2008 by a simple newsletter she wrote.

"At goop, we believe each and every one of our employees brings unique talents that help take our company to the next level. We believe in creating and maintaining an environment that promotes individuality, creative thinking, and innovation. We believe in practicing what we preach, and we focus mental and physical well-beingour own, and one another's. If you want your career to help make the world more conscious, open, and wellness-minded, then you've come to the right place." (Goop Careers, n.d.)

Goop focus is strategic, but it is based fully in real, good, clean products and an environment based in work life balance as well as profit. The strategy resonates with me as it is sound in quantitative as an example Goop pays close attention to the internet traffic and makes decisions based on customer needs. Goop is also qualitative in that products and articles etc. must qualify to the brand beliefs to be of investment and interest. Goop is diversified as well. The company does not rely on one prosperous path or specific item or industry. Rather Goop is open to all aspects of life. The company follows a prosperous and responsible business plan that began with "1. Build a loyal following before you monetize." This developed trust. Goop also concentrates on"2. Find the white space." Not necessary to reinvent the wheel, but instead ask the questions everyone wants to know the answers to. Further Good "3. Consider multiple avenues for growth", allowing them to continue to be relevant and learn and contribute. (The Growth Strategy Behine Goo, a Brand Owend by Gwyneth Paltrow , 2023)

In my opinion having worked in industries of Hotel and Hospitality, Finance and Securities, Restaurant Services and Department of Defense, I would be most interested in working for a company that allows learning and offers the ability to contribute to the health and wellbeing of the world, but most importantly allows me to cultivate and nurture myself and my family.
