Discussion 1

The video above goes into detail about human rights both in the United States and global and what it means and why it is so important to have them and fight for others to have them. Everyone should be treated humanely regardless of sex, gender, sexuality, ethnic background, etc. however even in 2022 we still have the problem of people getting treated poorly and taken advantage of. It is important that we as people for them as someone who is just as important to have the basic human rights that they deserve. Businesses who do business with companies and organizations that do not give their employees basic human rights usually get an extremely bad wrap because even if the product is amazing they terrible working conditions, the extremely long hours for little or no pay at all, and the overall treatment like they are slaves instead of people will completely turn the consumer of the product away from them because nothing is worth people getting treated as if they are nothing.

Discussion 2

The video goes over human rights and global ethics. At the beginning of his speech, Richard Peterson discusses how he believes human rights can be viewed in two different ways. One as universal truths that are to be discovered and the other as something that has been written to represent commonalities. To expand on this human rights arenorms that aspire to protect all people everywhere from severe political, legal, and social abuses. Examples of human rights are the right to freedom of religion, a fair trial when charged with a crime, the right not to be tortured, and the right to education.

Further in the video global ethics is introduced into the discussion. The main point of global ethics is that while we may have different ideas on how to express human well-being across cultures there is a basis for where human well-being stems from. Expanding on this means that human rights enjoin us to recognize universal well-being in all human beings.
