What career choice did you aspire to when you were in high school (and how did it relate to your personality at the time)? Compare that to your current career or career aspirations (and how that relates to your current personality traits).

1. When I was in high school I wanted to become an accountant. This career falls into the Conventional-"Organizer" personality group that loves order and routine. It is no wonder that this did not work out for me because that was not my personality at all. In high school and today I fit more into the Investigative or Social personality types. This makes sense given my current career path as I am currently a High School History Teacher. Teachers fit into the Social personality types. This is because we enjoy helping people and giving information but I also still see myself as an analytical thinker like the Investigative personality types.

2. John Hollands six career related personality types consist of: realistic, investigate, artistic, social, enterprising, and conventional. During my high school years I was very focus upon creative artistic activities like writing. I wanted to be a professional author and write books. I saw myself as very independent, 'one of a kind', and love to communicate non-verbally with my emotions - through writing instead voice my expressions. As I got older especially my senior year, I realized that I wanted to going into English Education for high school, it still have the involvement of writing but I was able to help others to find their own voice. Two years later I graduated with my associates in Education in college. Then my social personality type began to shown more gradually than my artistic type. I want to help individuals rather than teach, I still wanted to focus on higher education and students. Thus, sparked my interests in counseling. My values now is to helping individuals, and help to solve social issues and advocacy. My personality has always been friendly, helpful, and and trustworthy. I do still consider my artistic traits as another strength for my counseling profession.
