There are many reasons why there are alweays more males selected for international assignment than females. I do believwe that was one of the main reasons why males are selected more than females is due to other countries do not have a culture that is as progressive as the United States. The United States can still improve on that parity as well however. But in some cultures, women are not meant to be in the role of business. Some cultures have not progressed to where women can have more than a life of being a good wife and raise children. So if you are a company trying to conduct business in one of these countries, sending a women could be rather insulting. Unfortunately, this stigma has not left the world.

There are other stigmas that could prevent more women from traveling internationally. I do believe that pregnancy discrimination is a factor for women who want to travel internationally as well. Some countries may be afraid that they could lose a worker for a year and some change if they become pregnant. This is especially troubling for company's who have to send their employees to work internationally. I believe that they fear that once they get pregnant, the female employee would not be as effective. If it is a long-term assignment for the female employee and she gets pregnant, I believe that companies fear that they will lose out on the investment that they made by sending them internationally. Pregnancy discrimination is a crime (and it should be) but that does not mean that it does not happen. I fear that it happens quite a bit. More than anyone that is willing to admit.
