Based on my experience and from what I notice when I was serving, some service members lose moral, especially service members who hated their job or the ones with jobs that they think isn't that important or special. It is very easy to become unmotivated in every career field in geenral. So I think it's important to keep motivating them and making them feel that, whatever they do is very important, as they are the support, like wings that keeps the Airforce flying. Also based on Richard Branson's statement, mission statements should be short and direct to the point. It should be motivating the people in the organization, and the people they are going to serve. I think using a metaphor "wings" to describe airmen fits perfectly to what the airforce is all about.
