Use your textbook, the Internet, or other sources to conduct your research. Typically, an investigation is an effort to determine facts relevant to the issues arising from the interview.

Step 2 Sample client claim.

Scenario 2: Lost Wages

Mrs. Caroline Werth, a new client, is coming to the office to meet with you and Jared Young, an attorney at the firm.

Mrs. Werth spoke to you on the phone yesterday. In setting up the appointment, she said in part:

"My primary doctor gave me a prescription for weight loss. This was about ten years ago. I took the prescription for eight months or so, but I had to stop. I was diagnosed with severe heart problems. Even though I stopped taking the drug, the problems have continued. In fact, they've gotten worse, and I lost my job a year ago. I had missed too much work because of my health problems."

Mrs. Werth wants to sue her doctor to recover her lost wages.

Step 3 Summarize the investigation.

One-page summary of areas you would investigate in the scenario you selected. Point out aspects of the client's claim for which you would want further information (reports, records, and so on) or for which you would conduct additional research beyond what the client could provide. If possible, indicate where you would look for such information.
