1. Review the three stories inspiring renunciation by Granoff. Write your own story that inspires renunciation from the Jain perspective. This story must engage some of the elements of Jain doctrine such as omniscience, the world, elements of the person, karma, rebirth, and deliverance. Look to Granoff's translations to see how the Jains treat these themes.

   Stories should clearly set out characters and show some tragedy that expresses the truth of Jainism that inspires a character to renounce at the end. Remember that realzing reincarnation is real and recognizing the contents and relaitonships in past lives is the primary motivation in these stories.

   Stories may be in Jain India or any other time. The main task is to have a set of tragic events that cause the main character or side characters to become monks or pious lay people. Be sure to set out a beginning (what is life like and who are they), a middle set of events (the tragedies or maybe positive events that inspire a person to renounce), and the type of renunciation taken by the protagonist.
