Juvenile cases remain closed to the public and their records are kept sealed so that once their sentenced has been served they may continue rehabilitation without their childhood mistake following them throughout their adult life. Juvenile cases are heard by a solitary judge rather than by jury of their peers. However, juveniles also retain the same rights as their adult counterparts during the criminal justice process such as the right to remain silent protected by the Fourteenth Amendment in the United States Constitution (U.S. Constitution, n.d.). This was established with the decision made by the Supreme Court on the case of Haley v. Ohio in 1948. This case involved a 15-year [1]old adolescent male that was arrested and charged for murder. The police did not offer him counsel or advise him of his rights but proceeded to question him for hours. They made him believe that his accomplices had already signed confessions and that he would be convicted whether he confessed.
