Risk Assessment Strategies

For this assignment, you will analyze the risk assessment strategies of emergency management agencies in New York. Specifically, you will evaluate the current risk assessment plan for coastal storms based on recent research findings and predicted environmental trends and future projections. One of the challenges associated with the effective risk assessment of coastal storms in New York is a shortage of recent historical events such as what is seen in the Southeast Region of the United States. In addition, New York is vulnerable to hurricanes approaching from the south-southwest (nearly 90% of coastal storms) and the southeast (Hurricane Sandy). As such, emergency management agencies in New York must be adequately prepared for coastal storms that are low-frequency but high-impact. This is where risk assessment planning becomes critical. Based on research findings published within the past five years, you will analyze the risk assessment strategies for Coastal Storms in New York.

Develop a 46-page paper that includes the following sections:

• Introduction: Develop an introduction to coastal storms and risk assessment planning in New York. You may choose to focus on New York City or the State of New York.
• Current Risk Assessment: Develop an overview and discussion of current risk assessment plans for coastal storms in New York. Provide specific details as related to the components of risk assessment methods, the CPG 201 and the three steps of the THIRA process.
• Developing Trends: Discuss findings from recent research (within five years of publication) related to risk assessment strategies for coastal storms in the region. Remember that research that focuses on New York City, the State of New York, or Northeast Region can provide valuable and applicable content.
• Analysis of Strategies: Develop and analysis of the current risk assessment strategies for coastal storm in New York based on recent research findings and developing trends.
• Recommendations: Discuss a minimum of five recommendations for improvement to the current New York risks assessment plan for coastal storms.
• Conclusion: Develop a conclusion summarizing the main points of the paper.
