Robin worked for Metro News 1 as a roving reporter that would cover special interest pieces and local news stories for the station.While riding in subway home one evening after work she found herself sitting next to a producer from her stations arch rival, Channel 12.

The two struck up a conversation about the latest happenings in town, news stories, political scandals and industry happenings such as different news personalities and executives switching jobs, stations and leaving town for higher paying and higher ranking positions.

The producer told Robin, "We've taken notice of your work at 1 and like it.You have a ton to offer.You should come work for us.Here is my card.Send me your resume and a demo dvd with some of the highlights of your on air work and we'll get you an anchor's chair on our station right away."Robin told the producer that she appreciated her time and was ready to make a move.

Feeling excited about her new opportunity, Robin went home, updated her resume and the next morning after making a copy of her demo dvd, sent it off to the producer at Channel 12.

About 20 minutes after mailing the resume she and her boss got into an argument over a story he was sending her out to cover.She felt that the story would damage her journalistic integrity and refused to do it.She decided that she didn't need to dont anything more at Metro 1 because she'd be starting her new job very soon, so she quit on the spot and stormed out of the station.

Robin got in contact with the producer to let her know of her instant availability and was wondering when her first day on air would be.The producer told her that there were no current openings for anchors or reporters at the station but that they would hold her resume and demo dvd for when an opening came up and that she was first in line to be hired based on her experience and knowledge of the community.

Now out of a job and with no backup plan, Robin had to do something, so she met with her lawyer to talk about getting some compensation from Channel 12 for their broken promise.It may have only been a discussion but it was still an oral contract in Robin's eyes.
