Assignment Description:
Write a 5-7 page report presenting your analysis of the risk associated with two publicly traded stocks and the implications for valuation. Your audience is your employer, who has asked you to complete this report. Reports should be 5-7 pages, double-spaced, without graphs or images. Charts, graphs, tables and figures are encouraged to support written points. Traditional page organization is expected:
1. Introduction. Brief information about the companies. Information about the sector and top companies within the industry.
2. The analysis (the body). Discuss the results of the variables you calculated in the Analysis Tasks described below. Include answers to the analysis tasks.
3. Conclusions. Would you buy the stock? Why? Why Not? Support your points by referring back to portions of the analysis section.
Using APA format, you must use at least one source and cite all resources. In-text citations are essential. Powerful essays cite multiple external sources, including graphs, tables, calculations, etc., to support the discussion points.
Analysis Tasks:
1. Calculate the Average Returns, Variance and Standard Deviation of the stocks.
o Analyze these values for each company.
o Compare and discuss these values between companies.
2. Calculate a Beta estimate for each company using the step-by-step guide in the Instructions to Calculate Beta appendix.
3. Also, find the Beta estimate for each company utilizing a source such as Yahoo. Finance or Morning Star.
o Compare and contrast these Beta estimates.
What is the difference between the two types of measures?
4. How do these ideas contribute to the valuation of the firm and its risk and return?
Please note that you must submit all spreadsheets to show your calculations.
Timeline:
A rough draft is due in Week 9, which should be complete in analysis and writing.
Feedback will be provided on analysis and writing within one week.
