Roger was on holiday from Norway, visiting his friend Lyra who lives on Oxford Street in Nottingley. One day Roger went on a day trip to London. As he was going to be back late and as she did not have a spare key to give him Lyra told him that she would leave the front door unlocked. Unfortunately, when he got back to Nottingley, Roger could not remember which number house Lyra lived in. The terraced houses on Oxford Street face directly on to the pavement with no front gardens so Roger walked down the street and pushed each front door to see which one was open. In doing this he was observed by P.C. Coulter, a plain clothes police officer. P.C. Coulter approached Roger just as he was about to push (what subsequently turned out to be) Lyra's front door. P.C. Coulter tapped Roger on the shoulder and said, "What do you think you're up to chap?" Roger explained that he was on holiday, and he was looking for his friend's house and that he had forgotten the number. P.C. Coulter realised that Roger matched the description of a local burglar. She said to Roger "There's a story, if ever I heard one. Let's see what you have got on you." She then grabbed Roger's bag and rummaged through it, slid her hand underneath his hat, put her fingers through his hair, felt around his waist, the collar of his shirt and told him to take off his jacket and boots so that she could look inside them. The search uncovered an 'I Love London' hoodie, a Union Jack pen knife and a keyring that included a torch. P.C. Coulter said "You know what you've done, and you're nicked. The game is up" and she pushed Roger so that his back was against the wall of Lyra's house. Roger reacted by pushing P.C. Coulter and he tried to escape exclaiming "Help! A mad woman is mugging me". At that point P.C. Coulter tripped Roger and he fell to the pavement injuring his arm. On hearing the commotion Lyra came out of the house and pushed P.C. Coulter to the ground. P.C. Coulter called for backup and both Roger and Lyra were arrested for obstruction and assaulting a police officer in the execution of her duty. Advise Roger and Lyra.
