Ron, who suffers from psychotic delusions, invited his neighbour Amy over to his apartment for dinner. Amy, mistakenly believing Ron to be a famous footballer, accepts his invitation. While preparing dinner, Ron secretly slips a soporific drug, known to have calming effects, into Amy's glass of wine. Ron also rummages through Amy's handbag before deciding to keep her mobile phone, but not her wallet. Amy, who had begun to feel drowsy after consuming the drug, told Ron that she wanted to lie down on the sofa. Ron, however, started making sexual advances towards Amy. As a result of being overwhelmed by the effects of the drug, Amy submits to sexual intercourse with Ron before losing consciousness. The next morning, Amy reports the matter to the police, claiming she had not consented to sex with Ron.

Discuss Ron's criminal liability, if any. DO NOT discuss liability under the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.
