Rosita Hernandez recently changed jobs. After completing her business technology degree, she left her job as a supermarket clerk. Now she works as an administrative assistant at a financial services office in San Diego, California.

As an administrative assistant, Rosita keys letters for the members of her work team. The letters provide positive, neutral, and negative messages. Some of the letter formatting looks different from the letter formats Rosita learned to use in her college classes. She suggested to team members that different messages require different formatting. The team members do not seem interested in changing letter styles.

Rosita keys all letters in English. Most of the recipients live or work in the United States; however, other recipients live in Mexico. While some of the letters are short and seem blunt and tactless to Rosita, others are long and wordy. Rosita wonders whether the people writing the letters ever consider the receiver's culture and try to adjust the message to fit the receiver.
