Running a One Sample T-test in SPSS - Assignment 8 Important Reminders 1. In this assignment I give you hints about what to do, but I will not do this for the final project. However you should use this assignment as a reference when you work on your final project! It will be very helpful. 2. It's a good idea to SAVE A COPY of your completed assignment for yourself. Sometimes assignments do not get submitted properly so you should have a backup copy. 3. You will NOT be able to open up an SPSS dataset on a computer that does not have SPSS installed on it (e.g., your home computer, your laptop). However you can save the dataset to your memory stick to open it up at a later time. Getting Started on this Assignment 1. SPSS datasets are .sav files (like the way Word documents are .docx files). In this week's section, you will find a dataset called "TEEN edited." Right-click on the dataset and save it to the computer you are working on. 2. When you turn in the assignment, you will be turning in this Word document, with your answers in it. So make sure to save it! TURN TO THE NEXT PAGE FOR THE ACTUAL QUESTIONSBackground of the SPSS dataset This data is the Adolescent survey portion of the 2019 California Health Interview Survey. It contains answers regarding a wide variety of demographics, health status, and health behaviors questions from interviews with teenagers (ages 12-17) from January 2019 to December 2019. The actual questions (what you need to answer and turn in) 1. Create a histogram for the variable HGHTI_P (beight inches). Hint: Go to Analyze > Descriptive Statistics > Frequencies. Select the variable, click on the right arrow key to move it to the right column. Then go to Charts (far right hand side), select Histogram, select Continue, and then click OK. Copy and paste the histogram here below. 2. What is the mean for HGHTI_P? Hint: Look at the histogram output from the previous question. Type the answer in here: 3. Write the symbolic form of the null and alternative hypotheses for comparing the mean height of adolescents in the CHIS sample to 68 inches (the average height in the U.S.). Type the answer in here: 4. In words, what do the null and alternative hypotheses mean? Type the answer in here: 5. Run a one sample t-test for HGHTI_P to test if the CHIS sample is significantly different from 68 (the average height in the U.S.). Hint: Go to Analyze -> Compare Means -> One-Sample T Test. Select the variable, click on the right arrow key to move it to the right column. Change the test value to 68. Then click OK Copy and paste the t-test output table here below.6. What can you conclude based on the results of your test (Hint: what does the p- value tell you?)? Do you reject the null hypothesis, or fail to reject the null hypothesis? Does the CHIS sample population have a statistically significant different average height than 68 inches tall? Type the answer in here: 7. Write the symbolic form of the null and alternative hypotheses for comparing the mean height of adolescents in the CHIS sample to 65 inches (a value very close to the mean of the CHIS sample). Type the answer in here: 8. In words, what do the null and alternative hypotheses mean? Type the answer in here: 9. Run a one sample t-test for HGHTI_P to test if the CHIS sample is significantly different from 65 inches (a value very close to the mean of HGHTI_P). Hint: Go to Analyze -> Compare Means > One-Sample T Test. Select the variable, click on the right arrow key to move it to the right column. Change the test value to 65. Then click OK. Copy and paste the t-test output table here below. 10. What can you conclude based on the results of your test (Hint: what does the p- value tell you?)? Do you reject the null hypothesis, or fail to reject the null hypothesis? Does the CHIS sample population have a significantly different average height than 65 inches tall? Type the answer in here
