Salesperson scenario. From past experience, an office products company found that the total score of a newly hired salesperson on a multi-section exam was a good predictor of a salesperson's first-year job performance rating (on a 0, very low, to 100, very high, point scale). In pursuit of a shorter exam, the personnel director analyzed the first-year job performance ratings and separate scores on sections A and C of the exam of a sample of 120 salespeople. Excel was used to regress Rating on SectionAscore and Section Cscore, yielding the results given below.
