Sandhill Beach Company manufactures a suntan lotion, called Surtan, in 350-ml plastic bottles. Surtan is sold in a competitive market. As a result, management is very cost-conscious. Surtan is manufactured through two processes: mixing and filling. Materials are entered at the beginning of each process, and labour and manufacturing overhead are incurred uniformly throughout each process. Unit costs are based on the cost per litre of Surtan using the weighted-average method. On June 30, 2022, Michelle Walker, the chief accountant for the past 20 years, opted to take early retirement. Her replacement, Anthony Hall, had extensive accounting experience with motels in the area but only limited contact with manufacturing accounting, During July, Anthony correctly accumulated the following production quantity and cost data for the mixing department Production quantities: Work in process inventory, July 1.9,680 litres, 75% complete; started into production 110,110 litres, work in process inventory, July 31, 6,050 litres, 20% complete. Materials are added at the beginning of the process. Production costs: Beginning work in process inventory $ 106.500, comprising $ 49,398 of materials costs and $ 57,102 of conversion costs; incurred in July-materials $ 693,300, conversion costs $ 977 448. Anthony then prepared a production cost report on the basis of physical units started into production. His report showed a production cost of $ 16.14 per litre of Surtan. The management of Sandhill Beach was surprised at the high unit cost. The president comes to you, as Jill's top assistant, to review Anthony's report and prepare a correct report if necessary (c) Prepare a correct production cost report for July (Round unit costs to 2 decimal places, eg. 15.25) Direct Materials Conversion Cost Physical Units Quantities Units to be accounted for 9680 Work in process inventory, July 1 110110 Started into production 119790 Total units to be accounted for Units accounted for Completed and transferred out Work in process inventory, July 31 Total units accounted for Costs Unit costs $ Costs in July Equivalent units of production Costs to be accounted for Work in process inventory, July 1 Started into production Total costs accounted for Cost Reconciliation Schedule Costs accounted for Completed and transferred out Work in process inventory, July 31 Direct materials Conversion costs Total costs to be accounted for
