Sarah Kimball, CFE, is investigating Kelly Wells for her role in a potential kickback scheme. Trying to gather evidence about Kelly’s financial activity has been extremely difficult. A neighbor of Kelly’s while attending a bon fire came across bank statements that Kelly was trying to burn. Kelly’s neighbor contacted her company and was eventually able to talk with Sarah. Sarah used this information to pursue criminal charges against Kelly. Was the acquirement of the information legal?
