Julian Assange is an Australian computer programmerand thefounder of WikiLeaks, a nonprofit media organization. WikiLeaks is known for"leaking" information received from a variety of anonymous sources.In November 2010, WikiLeaks began releasing 251,287 leaked U.S. embassycables to a variety of news outlets around the world. The cables were confidential and contained sensitive information regarding national security and relations with other countries. WikiLeaks goal was to expose/educate the public on questionablegovernment conduct. Although the exact source of the information is unknown, it is presumed Assange received the information from an individual who works for the U.S. government. Assange is not accused of directly accessing or stealing the information from the United States.
