Scenario A student with allergies to nuts and eggs wants to attend a 3 day , catered school camp . The student's mother declares the nut and egg allergy to the school which passes this information to the camp caterer . At the camp food is prepared in the camp's kitchen by camp staff who transfer food to a central service area for students to help themselves . One meal served to students is fried rice The student notices the fried rice contains diced , scrambled egg and requests that an egg free meal be prepared as he cannot eat egg . This information is relayed to the camp kitchen where the camp's kitchen staff serve the student the same fried rice dish on a fresh plate but proceed to manually remove the scrambled egg from the meal . Having removed the egg . the meal is served to the student who is informed the fried rice no longer contains egg . After a few mouthfuls of fried rice , the student notices a tingling sensation in his mouth . Soon after the student's throat and tongue swell significantly , which he recognises as symptomatic with his allergy to egg . The student complains of dizziness , informs his classmates of his egg allergy and then collapses .
