Scenario Asteroids are a class of small rocky and metallic bodies that orbit the sun. These bodies represent the remains of failed proto-planets (Asphaug, 2003) and (Binzel & Barucci, 1991). Asteroid composition varies widely; some have high concentrations of rare metals such as gold, silver, and platinum, in addition to more common elements such as iron and nickel. Asteroid mining is a proposed approach to extracting critical elements from these small bodies. Due to the difficult nature inherendo mining asteroids, few companies or governments are currently considering asteroid mining. Our current understanding of asteroid composition confirms they are a likely source of many valuable elements. However, asteroid mining is currently only viable as a long-term solution. The infrastructure and techniques needed to mine and refine asteroid resources are under development, making short-term profits unlikely for mining companies. Some asteroids may be composed of "rubble piles." Iron ores can be lifted easily from such piles using a magnetic field. In this task, we will investigate how we can design an electromagnet to pull out the highest quantity and size of magnetic metals from an asteroid. This will help us figure out the driving question, "How do we design an electromagnet to remove the highest quantity of magnetic metal from a rubble pile
