Scenario: Betsy is an educational aide who has a specialized certification to deal with students with special needs. She currently has a job at a rural school district that doesn't pay very well. However, she applied, and was offered, a job working at a large school district that pays very well. She accepted the offer and gave 2 weeks notice to her current employer. She did NOT sign any contract with the new employer but was offered an aide manual.
Betsy started her new job on the appropriate date, but soon realizes she will have to enter a swimming pool to work with the student she is assigned and specifically hired to help. Betsy is very scared of the water, and refuses to enter the pool to help the student. Consequently, she is "fired" so the district can hire a replacement.
- Based on the above scenario, answer the following questions: a. was it legally proper to "fire" Betsy? Would you have done something different?
