Scenario Estelle Lovett is a Community Support Worker at First Access. Today she has an administration day
Question:
Scenario
Estelle Lovett is a Community Support Worker at First Access. Today she has an administration day onsite to catch up on documentation and planning. During her morning tea break, she identified a couple of work improvements that she believes should be implemented at First Access in order to comply with the legal and ethical requirements. One of the suggested work improvements is to enhance training on client-centred care planning as she overheard Sandra, who is a co-worker at First Access, expressing a preference for universal or generic care planning for all clients. She meets with a Manager of First Access, and Jukka Sepp, a Senior Personnel Support to talk about the suggestions. Jukka is a supportive colleague and will be hearing Estelle's proposed work practice improvements for the first time. He mentioned to Estelle that Sandra is his neighbour, and how Sandra was telling him the other day how much she loves First Access's values and how supportive the workplace is. (Estelle does not know that Sandra is Jukka's neighbour until now). He also mentioned that it is unfortunate that Estelle had to hear someone obviously not reflecting the organisation's values. He mentioned that he understands that the workers at First Access sometimes need to vent or talk things out occasionally but that there is a way of doing that.
What are the actual and/or potential conflicts of interest that you recognised from the scenario?
What action should Estelle take next?
