Scenario: Hart's One Stop E-Commerce Website Project Deb and D'Arcy own and operate a small variety store in the west end of Peterborough called "Hart's One Stop". It is located near Fleming College and in a neighbourhood where there is a large population of senior citizens and young families. In their store they offer a wide and varied selection of more than 1,000 items including, but not limited to, the following: Snacks - candy, potato chips, chocolate bars, nuts, pretzels, popcorn, etc; Drinks - refrigerated popular brands of sodas such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi-Cola, Sprite, 7up, Canada Dry; a full range of energy drinks; and milk and fruit juices; and prepared coffee and tea; Groceries - canned goods; breads and other baked goods; dairy items; frozen foods; and a limited supply of fresh fruit and vegetables; Prepared Fast Food - pre-made sandwiches; bagels; small pizzas and hot dogs (heated by in- store microwave); cookies and donuts; Non-Food Convenience and Miscellaneous Items - newspapers and magazines; greeting cards; cigarettes; lottery tickets; postal stamps; pens, pencils, and markers; batteries; USB memory sticks; prepaid mobile phone cards; personal care products; and, some non-prescription medicines. Deb has determined that the current pandemic lock down is benefitting their operation as Hart's One Stop is considered an essential business and therefore has been able to remain open serving many Fleming students and neighbourhood residents while many other retailers have been required to close temporarily. At the same time, Deb has determined that their main competition during the pandemic are the No Frills grocery store, Shoppers Drug Mart and Giant Tiger stores that are located close by. After discussing it with D'Arcy, Deb has decided that Hart's One Stop would benefit from creating an e- commerce website where their customers could at a minimum: Check to see what items are sold in the store, how much is currently available, and what the prices are; Order, pay for and schedule delivery of any items available in the store; and, At any time when the store is open, determine how busy it is so that they would know if they would be able to enter the store or would need to wait outside until some shoppers left. Deb realizes that there are probably additional services or benefits that the website could provide for Hart's One Stop customers. But as she is unfamiliar with online e-commerce websites she is not able to identify them at this time. She believes that once she starts to see the website take shape she will be able to identify the additional requirements. Deb asked D'Arcy if any of the students in the PMG program at Fleming College might be able to take on the building and launching of the e-commerce website for their store. She stressed that the project must get underway within a week, and it was important to have something in place by mid-February, even if it took until the end of March for her to be fully satisfied with the website.
