Scenario:

Magnet Forensics, a Waterloo based company that was acquired by U$.$S$.$ private equity firm Thomas Bravo for $$1\mathrm{.}8$ billion Cdn in $2023,$ is maintaining its aggressive growth acquisition phase with another major purchase.

The local digital forensics firm, that helps police services and government organizations root out bad guys online around the world and helps bring them to justice, recently bought Griffeye. The privately listed companies didn't disclose the details of the acquisition, but the Swedish based technology firm is used by $1,000$ police services around the world to catch child predators and investigate child abuse.

The startup employees $90$ people and its Griffeye platform is used by police agencies across the world to process, sort and analyze large volumes of images and videos. The technology has been particularly important in investigations regarding child sexual abuse material and bringing cases against hundreds of online predators.

Magnet Forensics is planning to share the success of its online investigation tools with the media and law enforcement agencies around the world with a special exhibition day June $15$ at its Waterloo headquarters. The event will be held from $1$ p$.$m$.$ to $4$ p$.$m$.$ and give media, digital influencers, online safety advocates and law enforcement officials a chance to tour their facilities and understand how their propriety technology works to make the online world safer.

In addition to the tour and demonstrations, Magnet Forensics will also hold a talk by Canadian$-$born journalist Keith Morrison who has hosted the To Catch a Predator series on NBC news networks in the U$.$S$.$ for more than a decade. Morrison will talk about the importance of work being done to protect vulnerable children in a social media world and the steps that parents and caregivers can take to protect their kids.

Magnet Forensics launched $12$ years ago as JADsoftware Inc. after Jad Saliba, a former Waterloo Region police constable, teamed up with Adam Belsher, a former Research In Motion $($later BlackBerry$)$ executive.

Saliba, a cancer survivor and self$-$described computer geek, produced a program that enabled investigators to retrieve digital evidence from hard drives while working in law enforcement. He first gave the software away for free to police agencies but worked with Belsher to turn it into a business when the software's value became clear.

The company grew steadily over the past decade and its products have been lauded by law enforcement agencies around the world. In $2019,$ Saliba was the recipient of a Governor General$$s Innovation Award.

In the spring of $2021,$ Magnet announced an initial public offering, one of many Canadian tech companies to take advantage of a then$-$hot investment climate. The IPO raised gross proceeds of $$115$ million Cdn$,$ and the company debuted on the TSX on May $3,2021.$

Since being acquired in $2023,$ the company has gone private and has merged with another Thoma Bravo property called Grayshift in Atlanta, Ga$.,$ to become a world leader in digital investigations.

Saliba and Belsher continue to act in senior roles with the newly established company. They see the event on June $15$ as a way to demonstrate their company$$s leadership in the growing area of cyber security, and as a way to celebrate the fifth local company to reach a billion$-$dollar valuation since $2020.$ Billion$-$dollar high$-$tech firms are called unicorn companies and speak to the continued success of the local high$-$tech sector known as Silicon Valley North.

Magnet Forensics also sees this as a wonderful way to recruit new tech talent in the highly competitive local tech scene. They want local Computer Science, Computer Engineering graduates and marketing and business students to consider their company when pursuing future employment opportunities
