SCENARIO Mario Pettucinni, a national of Italy is a high flying advertising manager in Milan, Italy. Mario ventured into the advertising industry later in life. He previously ran a very successful caf in downtown Milan, before deciding to go back to studies for fun. He completed his Bachelor of Marketing course at Milan University and recently joined an advertising company in Milan. He has been working there for two years. Although older than other advertising managers, being 55 years of age, his charisma worked well on clients, and he has been very successful in securing contracts with many high-end companies to manage their advertising campaigns over the past 2 years. In the industry, it is considered unheard of that someone of Mario's experience would be able to achieve this. During the end of year celebrations, Mario was the life of the party. While grabbing a martini, he met his manager Miguel's partner, Julia. Miguel worked with Mario in all of his pitches and spoke and thought very highly of Mario. Mario and Miguel are of similar ages, so despite Miguel being Mario's boss, they worked together like colleagues. Julia owns an advertising company in Bondi, Sydney and is planning to sponsor Miguel to work for her company in Australia. During her moment with Mario, she took the opportunity to see if Mario would be interested in doing the same as they were an excellent team. Mario at first dismissed the idea. He was in his late 50's and was very settled in Milan, loved his short blacks in the morning, loved his European holidays and loved his social life in Italy. In his mind, nothing could compare to life in Italy. However, the only reason he continued to listen, with an air of arrogance, was that he was recently considering his retirement plans and had considered Australia as a place he would like to settle in, given his sister and brother lived there, both of whom migrated there in the 1980's. Mario took a sip of his Martini and asked Julia to tell him a little bit more about the offer. Julia raised her glass to him and said she would get her registered migration agent to contact him, and he could ask as many questions as he would like, but she assured him she understood his value and her company would very fairly compensate him for his work. He said he expected that, but he would like a clear plan as to how he could remain in Australia permanently. He would not consider moving to Australia temporarily with no permanent visa prospects. Mario agreed that if the "perfect pitch" from Julia and her registered migration agent were presented, she had herself a deal. Page 3 of 3 Julia contacts you, as a registered migration agent, and asks you to set up a time with Mario. She gives you the background context above and tells you to please be ready for any questions that he may have as they only have one shot to convince Mario. In confidence, she tells you that Mario is really critical to Miguel's recent successes and without Mario on board, Miguel would not consider moving either. QUESTION What visa option(s) would you recommend to Mario? Explain the visa requirements and any risks associated with it.
