Scenario

Professor Spencer teaches business law for Dixon University, a for-profit school in Detroit. Several times during the semester, Professor Spencer made copies of articles and distributed them to his students. The daughter of one of the article's authors was a student in his class. The daughter told her mother about Spencer's copying, which took place without the mother or publisher's permission. The mother sued Spencer and the University for copyright infringement.

Professor Spencer also copied images from the Internet to use in his PowerPoint presentations. Most of the images were not in the public domain.
