Today, the first meeting of the First Access Safety and Respect Team will be held.
Recently, there has been an alleged case of physical abuse of a client by a staff member of First Access. This incident has led to management creating the Safety and Respect Team.
The General Manager, Lou-Ellen Fox, instructed the creation of this work team with the aim of the following goals:
- Educate all staff so they know what constitutes abuse and their legal and workplace obligations around reporting abuse.
- Train staff in communication strategies they can use to encourage trust and safety for clients to disclose abuse.
- Create a training plan to share this information with First Access staff.
At the end of the role play, you will assess your own participation and give feedback to each member of your group. Each member of your group will give feedback to you about your participation.
During the role play, your assessor will be looking to see that you can:
- clearly communicate the purpose and agenda of the meeting
- contribute to the discussions in the meeting by sharing your ideas and information you got from research
- stick to the agenda of the meeting
- participate fully without dominating or speaking over others
- listen to others, and give each person time to speak
- encourage others to participate by acknowledging the value of their ideas
- use conflict resolution skills
- take the meeting minutes.
