Experiment:How does thermal energy move?

Hypothesis:Thermal energy will move from the object that has more heat to the object with less heat.

Materials:

- cup of water

-Ice cub

-thermometer

-pencil & paper

Procedure:

  1. Hold an ice cube in your hand for several seconds. Observe how your hand feels. Observe what happens to the ice cube. Use tissue paper to dry your hands. Record your observation.
  2. Place your hand around the cup of water. Hold the cup for a few seconds. Observe how your hand feels. Record your observation.
  3. Use a thermometer to measure the temperature of the water in the cup. Record the temperature in degrees Celsius (C)
  4. Take the thermometer out of the cup. Add one ice cube to the water. Use a spoon to stir the water until the ice melts.
  5. Put the thermometer back into the cup. Record the temperature of the water again.

Results

Conclusion:

Compare how your hand felt when you held the ice cube with how your hand felt when you held the cup of water.
