Optics Lab: Concave and Convex Mirror Images Google the Geometric Optics PhET simulation link here or in the main Canvas assignment page. click on the first link, hit play, and then choose "Mirror". Make sure the boxes for "Focal Points", 'Virtual Image", and "Labels" toward the bottom right are all checked. Set the radius of curvature to 150 cm. Choose either "Concave" or "Convex" depending on the chart. Select "Principal" for Rays. Change the measure of the diameter to the given values. Using the horizontal ruler from the top right of the page, measure the distance from the focal point ('F') to the front of the mirror - we call this the "Focal Length". Don't worry about the location of the object for this part. Complete Table 1 and answer the following two questions. TABLE 1. Type of Mirror Diameter (cm) Focal Length (cm) Concave 60 7 4 . 5 Concave 75 Concave 90 Concave 105 Concave 120 Convex 60 Convex 75 Convex 90 Convex 105 Convex 120 1. What happens to the distance of the focal length from the mirror as we increase the diameter (size) of the concave mirror? 2. What happens to the distance of the focal length from the mirror as we increase the diameter (size) of the convex mirror? Now set the diameter to 90 cm. Choose either 'Concave' or 'Convex' depending on the chart. Change the radius of curvature to the given values on the table. Using the horizontal ruler from the top right of the page, measure the Focal Length. Again, don't worry about the location of the object for this part. Complete Table 2 and answer the following two questions. Page 1 of 5
