Section 3: Identifying Evidence Sources [20 points] You work for a multinational firm with stores in many countries worldwide. You work in the Canadian division of the organization and your workforce is unionized (the only unionized workforce in the entire organization). The other countries are changing their job positions and have begun a job analysis process to determine the movement of tasks from one role to another using a job-based approach. The two positions currently exist. However, due to process changes created by technological automation the nature of work performed in both of these positions has changed - in some instances reducing work, in other instances causing overlap between the two roles. The nature of the work is retail sales, specifically. The Canadian division has been in operation since 2000 and has been unionized since 2005. Currently there are 6 out of the 10 managers working in the Canadian operation who have been there since the division opened. The other 4 managers came from other countries of your organization. Your role is an HR manager in this organization. The Vice President of HR has asked you to gather evidence to inform this process. But before you started this process she handed to you: 1. the current job descriptions on file for the two positions under review; 2. the history of the number of employees in each of these roles since 2005; 3. the wage rate for all employees in these positions; 4. a report outlining the findings from a focus group with employees who shared their experience and concerns about the change in the position; 5. an academic study published in an academic journal in 2016 about the impact of using job-based evaluation systems to reconfigure jobs; 6. an employee engagement survey from the work group impacted; 7. the overtime hours worked within these positions; 8. the tenure of the employees; 9. a report from Deloitte Consulting about the trends in retail jobs impacted by automation using Statistics Canada data from 1900 to 2018; [local context] 10. a letter she wrote outlining her opinion based on her own experience; 11. the education level of the employees; 12. a letter from the CEO about his opinion about impact of technology on work; 13.a study produced by the Retail Association of Canada on similar positions; 14.an academic study published in an academic journal in 2019 about the impact of retail sales jobs due to automation; 15. and the design of the incentive program. Although the employees in these two positions have been relatively engaged and happy in their roles, there have been issues about the faimess of their total reward package. This change, not done well, could have significant implications for the organization in terms of relationship with customers and the associated sales generated by this group. Consider the following questions in relation to making sense of the information you have been given and some of the items you need to think about before you begin this process. Provide your responses in each section. I Sources of Evidence Provided: Based on the 15 sources of evidence named above, categorize each one into one of the four sources of evidence. You can record the number (e.g., 1, 2, 3 etc.) in the appropriate box. Academic Research Evidence Practitioner Experience Local Context and Organizational Data Stakeholder Perspective
