Question B1
Daniel and Mike are good friends. Daniel has been working as an officer in LCC, a small bank in Hong Kong, since he graduated from City College. He always says that Mike will have a bright future as he works as a credit analyst in a branch of MNB, one of the biggest banks in the world. Last week, Mike had dinner with Daniel in Central. Mike told Daniel that he planned to quit MNB the following month. Daniel responded, Mike, are you kidding me? Your bank is one of the most reputable banks in the world offering high salary and excellent fringe benefits and your spacious big office is located at the most expensive commercial area. All workers in Hong Kong dream of working in your company. Mike replied with a sigh, You are absolutely right. But I dont care! Mike groaned and continued, It was very boring to make credit contracts with clients every day. Nobody cares about my feeling and performance although I have been striving to do my best and pay extra efforts to complete all the tasks. It is MNBs practice to purposely under-rate staffs performance in order to reduce the year-end bonus. Moreover, my boss does not trust me and always keeps an eye on my daily schedule and reviews my contracts with clients, Mike sighed. Being Mikes only best friend, Daniel knows very well that Mike is not satisfied with his position in MNB because he wants to be promoted as the credit manager in his 20s to lead all credit analysts and negotiate credit contracts with clients in his own way. Daniel consoled Mike and said, Even though LLC is small, I have different opportunities to learn and deal with various kinds of tasks. The vice-president offers me opportunities to equip myself for my future career development. Recently, I have completed a big project successfully. My supervisor always says that I am the most outstanding staff in the branch. I am willing to work under my supervisor as I do not desire to lead others. Daniel further explained, I want to stay with this small bank as the people there are very nice like family. Mike laughed at Daniel and said that he had no time to focus on other issues and people. He explained that he did not want to talk to other people since they did not understand him. (Maximum page limit for the answer: 2 pages)
