Section One: Quotations. Instructions: In a word document. For FOUR of the quotations below, you are to 1) indicate which number quotation you are discussing, 2) name the philosophy/philosopher from which the quotation comes, 3) put the meaning of the quotation into your own words, and 4) explain what about that quotation makes it essential for understanding the philosophical school from which it comes (how does it relate to the philosophy from which it is taken?).

1. In the rich man's house there is no place to spit but in his face.

1. The Olympic victor makes you think you are happy, whereas I make you actually happy.

1. The greatest remedy for anger is delay: beg anger to grant you this at the first, not in order that it may pardon the offense, but that it may form a right judgment about it: if it delays, it will come to an end.

1. When you are going about any action, remind yourselfwhat nature the action is. If you are going to bathe, picture to yourselfthe things which usually happen in the bath: some people splash the water,some push, some use abusive language, and others steal.

1. Of desires, some are natural and necessary, some natural but not necessary; and some neither natural nor necessary but occurring as a result of groundless opinion.
