Select a publicly traded company whose stock is traded on a United States stock exchange and obtain the most current annual report about the company you have selected. Prepare a financial analysis report. The general format of the report should include, but is not limited to, the following: 1. Introduction - 3/4 to 1 page (10 points) This should basically describe the company, their products, their strengths, their weaknesses, and other general information. 2. Accounting methods and principles used (20 points) - Summary of Significant Accounting Principles Identify and describe at least four the different accounting methods used for such things as method of depreciation, inventory valuation, revenue recognition, retirement obligations, estimating receivables, lease obligations, and contingent liabilities. 3. Financial Statement Analysis (20 points) Identify the major components of the companys: -Assets: Current, Non-current, Investments, Total Assets -Liabilities - Current vs. Non-current -Description of ownership including but not limited to an explanation of accounts in stockholders equity (stock, retained earnings, paid-in-capital, treasury stock, etc.), types of stock authorized and issued and Treasury Stock, if any -Net Income --Identify the primary source of income --Identify the highest dollar value expense accounts -Changes in Cash Flow (operating, financing, investing, net change to cash) 4. Financial Evaluation: Evaluate your company through ratio and comparison analysis (30 points) - Calculate working capital, current ratio, and at least two more ratios (8 points). - Prepare a horizontal analysis (10 points) and a vertical analysis (10 points) of both the balance sheet and income statement - Comment on the financial outlook, strength, and liquidity position of your company. (2 points) 5. Describe the results of the Independent Auditors Report and what their opinion means. (5 points) 6. Conclusion (10 points) In one or two paragraphs, describe your opinion of your company. Is the company in a strong financial or liquid position? Are they competitive? Are they growing? Are they preparing for the future? Would this company be a good stock investment? Do you have any concerns about particular aspects of this company? As you prepare your report, keep in mind that any new or unfamiliar accounts or accounting methods should be defined and/or described. Your report should be no more than 4 or 5 typed (double spaced) pages excluding pages for your horizontal analysis and vertical analysis using a 12 point Times New Roman font. Your margins should be 1 inch with the exception of your top margin on your first page. Your top margin for your first page should be 2 inches. If you use any references other than your companys annual report, you must have a references page with a top margin of 2 inches. Your report should also include a title page. (5 points) Lastly, you need to submit a copy of the annual report that you used to prepare your report. If your annual report is not included, 50 points will be deducted from your report grade. Note: Proof your work carefully. Points will also be deducted for grammatical errors, spelling errors and formatting errors. I took Bank of America as my company.
