Setting up Data Communication Facility

Objectives: Apply the principles of Data and Digital Communications in designing a fully operational Internet

or Computer Gaming Shop. This includes network planning, cabling, layout, and costing.

Design must include the following components:

$1.$ Shop Logo and Name $-$ Create a logo for your shop and decide on a name. Be creative and ensure the

design reflects the theme of an Internet or gaming environment.

$2.$ Location of the Shop $-$ Provide a detailed description or mock$-$up of the location of your shop. Consider

accessibility, customer base, and proximity to other essential services $($like parking, restaurants, etc.$).$

$3.$ Technical Parameters $-$ Determine the number of computer stations, server requirements, and the type of

gaming or browsing experience you intend to offer. Specify the type of internet connection $($DSL$,$ fiber, etc.$)$

and speed required for the shop.

$4.$ Cabling and Network Diagram

o Design a cabling layout showing where you will run cables $($fiber$,$ ethernet, etc.$).$

o Create a network diagram to show the physical and logical connections between devices such

as computers, routers, switches, servers, and ISP modem. Use symbols to represent network

components.

$5.$ Layout of the Shop

o Design a $2$D or $3$D layout showing the arrangement of computers, the cashier$$s counter, server

room, and other utilities.

o Ensure that customer seating is ergonomic and comfortable, with sufficient space for gaming

setups or internet browsing.

o Include safety features like fire exits, electrical outlet placements, and cable management

solutions.

$6.$ IP Address Deployment

o Design an IP Address scheme for your shop, including a plan for internal devices $($PCs$,$

servers$)$ and external devices $($public$-$facing IP addresses if needed$).$

o Explain how DHCP $($Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol$)$ or static IP addressing will be used.

$7.$ Bandwidth Usage

o Estimate bandwidth usage per computer.

o Calculate the total bandwidth required for optimal performance in your shop considering

simultaneous users and internet speed for gaming or browsing.

$8.$ Devices Used and Specifications

$$ List all devices to be used in your shop with their technical specifications, including:Computers: Processor, RAM, graphics card, storage, operating system.

o Network Devices: Routers, switches, modems.

o Peripherals: Printers, monitors, keyboards, etc.

o Cables: Fiber Optic Cable, UTP and etc.

$9.$ Standards Used

$$ Deliverable: Identify and justify the networking standards being used $($e$.$g$.,$ IEEE $802\mathrm{.}3$ Ethernet,

IEEE $802\mathrm{.}11$ Wi$-$Fi$).$ Explain why these standards are suitable for your shop setup.

$10.$ Costing and Budget

o Create a detailed costing for the shop setup, including:

$$ Computer and network equipment

$$ Cabling, switches, routers

$$ Internet service subscription

$$ Software licenses $($OS$,$ gaming platforms, etc.$)$

o Provide a budget breakdown, including initial setup costs and ongoing maintenance.
