Setup or improve the network system of the school below:
Requirements: All buildings on the campus should be connected to the local network and have access to the internet.
LAYOUTs
- In layouts per building/per floor, create where you can set up your network devices to provide connectivity to everyone in the area. The layouts point out where the devices can be located and what area is it supposed to cover.
- How do you connect the different buildings together? What kind of network technology will you be using? Show in the layouts these interconnections
- For every floor of each building, there will be a designated area where all the network devices (switches, access points) will be house. Identify in the layout per floor, where you propose to put the devices, what kind of devices. For areas that will be using WIFI show here you think the WIFI will be located on the floor and what is the expected area of the coverage. Consider the following points in identifying the locations: accessibility, security, etc. Explain briefly why you want it I that location.
- Identify what Network topology you want to use in the different locations
- Identify the cabling/connection type you will use, like fiber, Twisted Pairs, etc.
ISPs and MIS
- The MIS room in the BA building is where all the internal connections will be converged.
- The Internet Service Providers will be connected also to the MIS Room.
- The school's Internet Connections will be handled by three different ISP vendors.
- Provide at least 3 different ISP costs for at least 50mbps to 100 Mbps as an example.
- Discuss how each internet connection will be used. Which ones will be used by the different network groupings. (e.g. ISP A will be used by students because it has the bigger bandwidth)
- Several groups can use one ISP connection, or some groups can have one or two ISP connections available to them. Explain why certain network groups have multiple connections given to them.
Network Groups, Subnets
- Provide a set of IP addresses, with subnets to divide the network in the following setup below. You can assume any set of IP address class to use but the networks/subnets will be able to see each other.
- Two networks for students with at 1,500 hosts for each network
- One network for employees with 400 hosts
- For each College one network for faculty of the college and has at most 200 hosts
- One network with 240 hosts at most to be used for one of the classrooms.
- Also briefly discussed how you will handle the increasing student population in the next 5 years.
Networking Technologies
- Consider the emerging technologies like Wifi6 if you want to use them. Discuss what changes will you need in your network if you plan to use it. Also, take note that organizations want to future-proof their setup. Meaning if there are technological advancements, their investment in the equipment/hardware is not wasted.
- Please consider also the following areas when designing
- Network performance – e.g. is the current bandwidth enough to handle the student requirements
- Do you plan to restrict apps in your network?
- How will you monitor this?
- Network security – is your security adequate? How do you ensure that the network will remain secure with the different number of people that are going to use the network on the campus?
