Several commentators in recent years have remarked that India is poised to be the next global superpower. It is the most populous country in the world, and has experienced 6-7% annual GDP growth in recent years. Others aren't so sure, citing high rates of poverty (about one-fifth of the population lives below the poverty line), a high percentage of workers employed in subsistence farming compared to elsewhere in the world, relatively low literacy rates, and underdeveloped infrastructure. Using the logic of the Solow growth model, explain both the prospects and stumbling blocks for India becoming the next global superpower.
