• Sexual Violence in Detention. Respond to at least one of the following question clusters:
  • Have you seen shows or movies featuring or discussing prison sexual abuse? Have you heard jokes about prison sexual abuse? Explain what you've observed.
  • Does popular culture normalize this abuse, trivialize it, or challenge it? People often suggest greater presence of corrections officers as a means to prevent sexual violence in prison. However, corrections officers (COs) themselves are responsible for a disturbing proportion of the abuse. What would you suggest to help curb sexual violence in prisons without relying on COs?
• Sexual Violence in Colonization and Armed Conflict. Respond to at least one of these sets of questions:
  • What obstacles do Native American victims/survivors of gender violence face when seeking justice through courts and the criminal legal system?
  • How would you apply Crenshaw's or Young's descriptions of oppression and intersectionality to the issue of gendered violence against Native Americans?
  • What crimes or other legal disputes would be better adjudicated in peacemaking or restorative justice systems? Can you see these systems working in non-Native American contexts?
  • In some discourses, wartime sexual violence is deemed more heinous than wartime killing. Why do you think that is?
  • Do you think it is ever reasonable to prioritize saving women's lives over saving men's lives? Explain.
